History of Ventuno Tokyo
In 2026, Ventuno Tokyo celebrates its 100th anniversary.
It all began in the early Showa era with a humble eatery, “Shibuya Shokudo.”
Founder Sankuro Takagi, born into a long-standing ryokan family in Niigata,
moved to Tokyo and used his experience to open the restaurant.
With yakisoba as its signature dish, the restaurant expanded to 13 locations in Tokyo and eventually across Japan.
True to its motto—“delicious and affordable”—the eatery remained a beloved presence in competitive Shibuya.
Even after World War II left Shibuya in ruins,
the founder brought timber from Niigata and rebuilt.
In 1955, the Shibuya Shokudo Hall was built, followed in 1967 by the Manyo Hall,
which included wedding halls, restaurants, and salons—becoming a place for joyful celebrations.
In 1998, Manyo Hall was demolished and the Takagi Building was constructed in its place.
On its basement floor, Ventuno Tokyo opened alongside Chinese restaurant Hakuho.
HMV Shibuya, a favorite of music fans, also opened there—making it a cultural hotspot.
The Italian-style “Ristorante Ventuno Tokyo” operated until 2021,
then was reborn as a Western-style bistro, welcoming over 150 guests each weekend.
In March 2025, it took a new step forward as “Casual French Ventuno Tokyo.”
As Shibuya continues to evolve,
we aim to remain a place of comfort and flavor—loved by all who visit.
